HG’s London Office Breaks New Ground with Financial Times Recognition

HG’s London office has achieved a significant milestone, being named to the Financial Times’ Europe’s Leading Patent Law Firms List for the first time. This recognition, comprised of firms most recommended in a survey of 10,000 peers and clients, illustrates HG’s growing influence in the international intellectual property landscape.

HG Earns Accolades Across Its Global Offices From IAM Patent 1000

Karen Mangasarian: Patent Prosecutor of the Year at the Inaugural LSPN Awards

HG Partner Karen Mangasarian has been named Patent Prosecutor of the Year at the inaugural Life Sciences Patent Network (LSPN) Awards USA, held on May 6, 2025, in Boston following the LSPN North America–Spring 2025 Conference. Hosted by Life Sciences Intellectual Property Review, the awards recognize practitioners driving innovation in life sciences intellectual property through peer nominations and independent expert judging. The judging panel praised Karen as “the rare life science patent prosecutor fluent in the language of biologics and small molecules,” highlighting her technical talent, legal skills, and ability to align patent and commercial strategies, making her essential for life science clients seeking patents for precision medicines and complex molecules. This recognition underscores Karen’s leadership in navigating complex technical landscapes and exemplifies HG’s standards of precision, expertise, and excellence in securing critical patents and advancing client success.


London’s Arthur Laycock Named a Rising Star by Managing IP

2024 New York Super Lawyers and Rising Stars

Each year, Thomson Reuters selects no more than five percent of the nominated lawyers for the New York Metro Super Lawyer and Rising Star lists. This year, four outstanding HG attorneys were recognized with this prestigious honor, standing out amongst their peers in the bustling legal landscape of New York, New York. James F. Haley, Jr. is listed for the 18th time, Karen Mangasarian is selected for the third time, and Jeffery Ingerman makes an impressive 11th appearance.

Three HG Partners Listed in WIPR Leaders Guide

Three HG Partners, James F. Haley, Jr., Karen Mangasarian, and Brian Gummow were listed in the prestigious WIPR Leaders 2024 Guide. WIPR Leaders is a “one-stop guide” for clients seeking top-tier IP practitioners across the world. WIPR Leaders are chosen by a research team after exhaustive nominations and vetting. 


HG Recognized by Chambers for Excellence in Patents

HG has been honored with a ranking in the prestigious Chambers and Partners Guide, Intellectual Property: Patents, for 2024. This is no small feat as less than 2% of U.S. firms can boast a Chambers ranking and boutique firms like HG must compete against the full spectrum of firms, both big and small. 

In the end, it is the depth of expertise in both industry and legal matters that earned HG a place on this coveted list. In their editorial, Chambers noted that HG’s “substantial expertise in patent prosecution and general patent strategy” and “ability to handle complex subject matter” as reasons for inclusion. 


New York Office and 5 HG Partners Recognized by Managing IP

Co-Founding Partner, James F. Haley, Jr., Receives Lifetime Achievement at the Managing IP Awards, Americas

HG LLP Partners and Associates were among the 220 attendees at the 2024 Managing IP Awards Americas ceremony on April 25, 2024, in New York. Winners were honored and achievements applauded, but the highlight of the evening came with the announcement of the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, HG Co-Founding Partner James F Haley Jr. This award recognizes his exceptional contributions to the field of intellectual property and also pays tribute to the values of integrity, expertise, and dedication that define his career. Mr. Haley graciously accepted the honor, attributing his success to inspiring clients, colleagues, and his family.

2024 Managing IP Awards Shortlist Americas

HG is thrilled to receive two first-time nominations to the shortlist for the Managing IP Awards, Americas in 2024. The Firm was nominated for Boutique Firm of the Year Award and Partner Karen Mangasarian is nominated for Practitioner of the Year for Patent Prosecution. The Managing IP Awards are regarded as one of the most respected awards in the IP, the annual shortlist follows months of thorough research involving peer review, market evaluation, and client references.


2024 Thought Leaders USA

Co-founding partner James. F. Haley, Jr has been a Thought Leader for Patents and Recommended for Life Sciences Litigation in the 2024 edition of WWL: Thought Leaders USA, further cementing his status as an influential figure in the intellectual property legal community. 


2023 IAM Recommendations and Patent 1000

After researching top firms and talent worldwide, IAM recognized HG’s London office with a Bronze Award for Patent Prosecution. In addition, the New York office was, once again, recommended for patent prosecution. As a Firm, HG was recommended overall for international work.
